Importing from Responserack into FEMA USFA eNFIRS

Once incidents have been exported from Responserack they can be imported to FEMA USFA eNFIRS. This is typically required for fire departments in states and territories that do not require your department to send your NFIRS records to them (by email or website upload).

eNFIRS is NFIRS 5.0 in 2021 (and beyond)

eNFIRS is the 2021 upgrade to the USFA NFIRS 5.0 website allowing manual data entry of individual incidents, querying for past incidents and batch import on incidents to USFA NFIRS. We are utilizing the last capability here.

Login to eNFIRS

To login to eNFIRS visit the https://www.nfirs.fema.gov/NFIRSWeb/login page and enter your credentials; username and password.

NOTE: With eNFIRS you can reset your password alternatively, if you need help with credentials, you can contact your NFIRS point of contact.

Select the bulk import capability

To import incidents from Responserack to eNFIRS / NFIRS 5.0.

Select the import options

To import ensure your email address is defaulted correctly, and that the

  • Accept Invalid Incidents - set to the default Yes.
  • Overwrite Existing Incidents - set to the default Yes.

While an import will succeed with neither of these options set to "Yes", accepting invalid (which should not occur, since these incidents have been pre-validated) and overwrite existing incidents (which should only occur if you are re-importing an update on an incident) these are the default values and are preferable.

Select the file you are uploading using "Choose file", locating the file you exported from Responserack on your local machine.

Once "Import Files" is pressed the file will be uploaded and queued for processing. Processing typically takes minutes, but can take much longer (especially if the system is busy processing other departments' files.)

Process the result email

eNFIRS returns an email (to the email address entered with the request) and that contains a link to a "results file". Responserack (in the admin website, NFIRS / NFIRS Tools) will process those files for you, extracting and displaying messages.
