Incident Category 'Other'
Incident Category 'Other' is a very non-specific. Given the many NFIRS Incidents Types, is there a better choice?
As of 2023, OFIRS (Ohio Fire Incident Reporting System) no longer accepts any incident types ending in "00" such as "100", "200" ... "900". The philosophy being ... there is a better code than "Fire - Other", and such. Other codes with a single "0" are allowed, as more precise.
Was 'Other' defaulted by Responserack?
Don't assume that "Other" was chosen by another administrator. Sometimes, when processing input from Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Responserack cannot determine a more specific category and defaults to "Other". Often "Other" is not the best choice amongst the many different types:
- 100 - Fire Group
- 110 - Structure Fire Group
- 130 - Vehicle Fire Group
- 140 - Wildland Fire Group
- 200 - Rupture / Explosion
- 300 - Rescue & Emergency Medical Service (EMS)
- 400 - Hazardous Condition (no Fire)
- 500 - Service Call
- 600 - Good Intent
- 700 - False Alarm & False Call
- 800 - Severe Weather & Natural Disaster Group
- 900 - Special Incident
