Finding Incidents
Locate Incidents in Responserack
Occasionally we need to locate a specific incident report long in the past, perhaps by Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) number, or date, or some other detail. Here are two ways to quickly locate the incident report you need.
1. Using "Find in Page" (The Fast Way)
When you are in the Incidents View, your data is organized chronologically, grouped by month, and paged by year. Each entry includes the date, Incident ID (CAD number), the address, and the incident type. All of these can help you locate the incident.
If you are looking for a specific address or CAD number within the current year, the most efficient method is using your browser's search function to “find in page”:
- Mac: Press CMD + F
- Windows/Linux: Press CTRL + F
- Mobile (iOS/Android): Select "Find in Page" from your browser’s menu.
Why this works well:
Since Responserack renders simple text, the browser will instantly highlight every instance of your search term. This is perfect for jumping straight to a specific street name or a unique incident ID without waiting for a server-side search to load.
2. Advanced Search via Spreadsheet (CSV) Export
If you need to search by obscure details—such as "which incidents used Engine 1"—another approach is to move the data into a spreadsheet.
How to Export and Search:
- Download the Data: Locate the Export to CSV link (on the “Incidents” page in the “Admin View”).
- Open in Spreadsheet Software: Open the downloaded file in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or Apple Numbers.
- Use the "Search" box within the filter menu to find apparatus, or partial address matches, across the entire dataset.
